Finally had a free day over the weekend to do some work under the hood of my Camaro. I have been collecting correct parts to replace the stuff that I had put on the car just to get it running. I am slowly getting the car up to concourse standards to at least hold its own against cars that have a easy 6 figures in their restoration. Above pic is before.

the SS hood louvers were going bad so it was time to replace

Prepping the 68 only chrome valve covers, also putting together a correct factory space saver spare tire. A very rare option in 1968.

Test fitting the new factory style air cleaner base. the factory units have a big sump because they were designed for the tight space of a Corvette. Chevy just then used the same open element air cleaner on all their other high performance cars.

Pretty much done just a few odds and ends and then some good cleaning.

You are quite fortunate to have such a fine car.

Lookin' good. I'm jealous not only because 68 Camaros are so cool but also because a lot of parts are easier to find for 67-69 than for my 71, though it is getting easier than it used to be so I shouldn't bitch.

71 Camaro? NPD has almost everything for them now. they have had a lot of parts since my grandfather and I started redoing this car in 2000

It used to be that a lot of the front end parts and interior pieces that were exclusive to the 70-73 were hard to find. There would be things like you could get a right hand headlight bucket but not a left. Now it's much better. Between NPD, Classic, Year One and Rick's Camaros I can find most things, though some of the repo parts can have issues.

oh I know, the new hood inserts fit like garbage. the ones that I pulled were repops as well and they fit like garbage when we put them on 6 years ago.

Yep, I had to get a reproduction radiator support and holes for the hood release bracket don't come close to matching the bracket. That rad support sets the position for the whole nose so we'll so how it goes when I put it back together.
